Major 9th Guitar Chords Chart (printable)

A major 9th chord is nothing more than a major 7th chord with an added 9th. It is constructed of a root, a major third, a fifth, a major 7th, and a major ninth. When the seventh is included, this is called an extended chord, as opposed to a add chord such as the add9, which is just a 9th added to a major triad. In some voicings, either the fifth or root note can be omitted. When some notes are left out, the chord is said to be implied.  Notice that in the bottom three chords that no root note is listed, this is because the root note is omitted.
