Hammer Ons and Pull Offs

Hammer Ons

A hammer on is when, on the guitar, hammer our finger down on a fret without picking it.  Generally, it is done on a string that is already vibrating, but it can be done on a string that we have not picked.

When you do a hammer on make sure you are applying enough force to make the note sound clearly, but not any more than necessary

Pull Offs

A pull off is essentially the opposite of a hammer on.  If we place our finger on a fret lift it down towards the floor we will create a pull off.  If you are having problems getting your pull offs to sound, make sure you are pulling the string slightly toward the floor causing it to vibrate.
