Guitar Chords: Major Chords Chart (printable)

A major chord is built from only three notes, a root, a major third, and a perfect fifth (or 1 3 5).  It is the third that determines whether or a not a chord is major or minor. A major chord has a major 3rd and a minor chord has a minor 3rd. For example, a “C major chord” is made up of C, E, and G, but a C minor chord is made up of C, E flat, G. A major chord is often described as having a happy sound, while a minor chord has a sad sound.
